Roger Pollock's Builder Page

Roger Pollock never planned to follow in his father’s footsteps. Despite the fact that Don Pollock was a successful home and apartment builder, Roger had set his sights elsewhere: He wanted to become a writer.

My Dad’s idea of a family outing was to drive us to his various building projects.

Along the way, he found himself turning to construction jobs when cash got tight or other opportunities were scarce. He even worked for his father off and on, continuing to deepen his understanding of the building trade.

Building did not truly click for him until the mid-80s during a stint working for Greg Nester Construction & Development in California. It was while working for Nester that Roger began to imagine bringing together his love of design and his developing understanding of the building process.

His first step was to learn as much as he could about design, devouring every book he could find on the subject. Discovering the housing market was on the rebound in Oregon, he then decided to return home.

In 1990, he launched RMP Properties. In seven years the company would crest $27 million in sales and put Roger at the top of the building industry in Oregon.

We try to give people their dream house at a price they can afford. That’s our mission.

Builder Magazine named him a “National Giant” three years in a row, while the Portland Business Journal selected him as one of its “40 Under Forty” business and community leaders 40 years of age or younger as well as the Number One Builder in the Portland Metro Area in 1995, 1996, 1997 and 1998.

Now owner and president of Buena Vista Custom Homes, Roger Pollock has built over 2000 homes with no signs of slowing down. Never one to sit still, he is also excited about opening his first beach resort, Cerritos Beach, in Baja California with the first phase being completed in 2008.

And don’t count out that aspiring writer either.
